A former Publicity National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, on Monday morning collapsed in court as he made his way to the dock for his resumed trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

He fell down, shortly after the case was called up in the court room.

Mr. Metuh, was seated in the courtroom close to the dock before the trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, who had to stand down the matter to enable medical officials to attend to the defendant.

Metuh, alongside his company, Destra Investment Limited, are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for the N400m he allegedly received fraudulently from the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014.

‎Medical officials were still attending to the former PDP spokesman as of the time of going to press.

Mr Metuh is reportedly suffering from spinal cord injuries and had appeared in court on a stretcher a couple of times.

There had been attempts for a prolonged adjournment of his case to enable Metuh’s treatment abroad but was by the trial judge, Justice Abang.

At the resumption of trial on Monday, his lawyer, Emeka Etiaba, told the court that he was prepared to hands off the case. The request was however refused by Justice Abang, who interestingly travels from his Warri station to hear the Metuh case in Abuja.
