President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday at the International Conference Centre, Abuja mocked former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsay Orubebe, when in a lighter mood he faulted the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for not inviting him to the 2018 Democracy Day Lecture.
Recall the Orubebe drama during the announcement of the result of the 2015 presidential election when he attempted to disrupt the process after finding out that his boss, former President Goodluck Jonathan was losing the presidency.
Buhari expressed the view that the organisers should have invited him to come and learn about democracy by listening to the lecture delivered by the Ex-Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega.
In his lecture, Jega alleged that members of the National Assembly are notorious for seeking bribes to carry out their constitutional duties.
He said he had “spoken to quite a number of chief executives who complained of high demand for bribes from members of the National Assembly in the name of so called oversight functions.”
The event had in attendance, President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen and other top government personalities.
