nurse killed by rapists

A 300-level student of College of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo, Mercy Victor, on Tuesday died of injuries she sustained after she was gang-raped and stabbed by suspected “area hoodlums” on Sunday.

Her death was confirmed by the Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP David Missal.

Mercy was reportedly returning to school on Sunday night after a weekend. She was said to be returning to the school at about 10pm when she ran into three keke riders.

They allegedly gang-raped, stabbed and abandoned her by the roadside.

She was later found in a pool of blood by a passer-by and was taken to the nearby specialist hospital Jalingo where she died on Tuesday.

It is understood that Mercy is not the first victim of the keke riders, who are said to be notorious in raping women around the same area.

No arrests have been made as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the President of the National Union of Taraba State Students, Hope Vyonku, has called on the authorities of the school to take measure to ensure the safety of students.
