Nigeria’s football legend, Jay-Jay Okocha has urged the ruffled Super Eagles, who lost two feathers against Czech republic and England in world cup friendlies, to put up their best performances at the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Okocha, who represented Nigeria at the 1994, 1998 and 2002 World Cups, told Brila FM on Thursday that the team need to do well in Russia.

The Eagles are in Group D along with Argentina, Iceland and Croatia. They play Croatia in their first match on June 16.

Despite Nigeria losing their last two friendly matches 1-0 to Czech Republic and 1-2 against England, Okocha still believes the team, coached by Gernat Rohr, can still make an impact in Russia.

The former Super Eagles captain said, “Experience is the best teacher and I believe that we should not expect too much from the team in Russia. We should set a realistic target for them – to first qualify from the group. They can then take it on from there.

“Most of them are going there for the first time; they should enjoy the moment and put up their best performance. It is possible that they may not have the opportunity to play at the World Cup again after this, so they should try to make a good use of it.”

The Super Eagles team are currently in Austria preparing for the world cup.
