Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Bauchi, Bauchi State after a large portion of the Azare Central Market in Katagum Local Government, Bauchi was gutted by fire on Sunday on a condolence visit that is bound to trigger allegations of him being a sectional leader rather than president for all.

There was also a windstorm in Bauchi metropolis and environs late on Saturday, whick claimed the lives of many people.

The aircraft conveying the President touched down at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi at 9:30 am on Thursday.

The president was welcomed to the state by Governor Muhammed Abubakar and the Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Kawuwa Damina.

This visit is set to spark off another set of debate over alleged clannishness of the president.

Recall that despite the fact that hundreds have been killed in Benue State by suspected Fulani herdsmen and thousands rendered homeless, Mr. Buhari is yet to set his foot in Benue.

Twice Benue State Government held mass funeral for those killed by herdsmen, including two catholic priests, and twice Buhari shunned both events. Neither did he send a representative.

Bauchi State is peopled predominantly by Hausa-Fulani, the president’s ethnic group.

Mr. Buhari has also given the key posts in his government to Hausa-Fulani people.

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo had in February 2018 blasted Buhari for disregarding federal character in security chiefs’ appointments, condemning the National Assembly and the Federal Character Commission for failing to check the Mr. Buhari’s excesses in the uneven distribution of public offices.

It came days after Obasanjo in an open letter accused the president of nepotism and clannishness, asking not to seek re-election in 2019 by “dismounting the horse.”
