It has emerged that Mr. Akinola Olaolu, who has been functioning as rector of Igbajo Polytechnic, Igbajo, Osun State, does not even have a Bachelors degree despite his claim of having a Ph.D.
The University of Lagos on Wednesday said that Olaolu did not obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the institution as he had claimed.
The Principal Assistant Registrar, Communications Unit, University of Lagos, Mrs Taiwo Oloyede, disclosed this, saying the institution did not have a record of him.
This is coming after Prof. Chibuzo Nwoke, the Vice-Chancellor of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Ile Ife, Osun State, where the rector worked in 2012, said Olaolu’s credentials were fraudulent.
Prof. Nwoke had hinted that Olaolu left the institution over the questionable credentials.
Mr. Olaolu had arrived atIgbajo Polytechnic in December 2015 as a deputy rector to the former rector, Tanimowo Oke.
But because Olaolu claimed he had a PhD in Economics from the University of Ibadan, his arrival led to the removal of Oke, who had only a master’s degree as of then.
But it is understood that eight months after his employment by the school, Olaolu could not tender his PhD certificate, as he submitted only a notification of result to gain the employment.
However, it later turned out that the notification of result was forged.
The Director of Public Communications, Mr Olatunji Oladejo, told the Punch on request that the varsity had neither a record of the rector, nor of his thesis.
The UI spokesperson said Olaolu’s purported matriculation number was fraudulent.
The rector’s purported thesis supervisor, Prof. Ademola Ariyo, also told the newspaper that there was no record of Olaolu in the Department of Economics where he claimed to have bagged the doctorate.
