
Gunshots rocked streets of Borno State capital Maiduguri on Monday as police officers posted to the state on special duty shot sporadically in the air, barricading streets and the highway in protest six months of unpaid allowances.
It is understood that the police officers have been deployed to Borno State from various units across Nigeria to help in the fight against insurgency.
The shooting caused confusion and forced motorists nearby to scamper for safety.
Borno State Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu, who spoke to journalists on the development, said the police was aware of the situation.
According to him, the unpaid allowances caused by the delay in signing the 2018 budget.
