The chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus on Thursday led other party members when they stormed the main entrance of the National Assembly to protest the alleged brutality of the police agaisnt Governor Ayo Fayose and other party supporters in Ekiti State.
However, when the PDP members arrived at the National Assembly with their petition, they were stopped by security officers at the gate.
Recall that on Wednesday armed police officers sealed off the entrance to the Ekiti State Government house, restricting movement in and out of the complex.
They also used tear gas to disperse a political rally called by Governor Ayodele Fayose. The governor was not sparred.
A picture of a teargassed Fayose on the floor later went viral on the internet.
The police however on Wednesday evening denied sealing the gate of the government and teargassing the governor. In a statement, the Police said they acted to to prevent potential violence between PDP supporters and those of the All Progressives Congress (APC); who the police said has also planned a rally.
