The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old food vendor, Shamsudeen Bashiru, for allegedly abducting two girls in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
The victims, Okwudili Nwoke, 16, and Khadijat Araboma, 16, of Gwada town were allegedly taken to Suleja by the suspect, Northern City News reported.
The suspect, who hailed from Sokoto State, claimed that he wanted to “save them from the molestation of the people that they (victims) were living with.”
The vendor sai, “I stay in the same Gwada with them; they came to me, telling me that they wanted to run away from their guardians who had been molesting them for over one year and they could not tolerate it anymore. That was when the idea of taking them to Suleja came to me.”
On if he had any criminal plan against the teenagers, Bashiru said, “Allah forbid; that is the last thing I will do. I was only trying to help them from their hopeless predicament; that was all.”
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect has admitted taking the girls to Suleja.
