The Benue State government on Thursday announced that the Economic Financial Crimes Commission has unfrozen its bank accounts.
The Chief Press Secretary to Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, Mr Terver Akase made this known.
The EFCC had frozen the accounts of the state government domiciled in three banks on Tuesday, saying it was investigating alleged abuse of the state’s security votes.
It remains however unclear if the EFCC has the statutory powers to freeze the account of a state, since a state perse cannot be criminally investigated for corruption or money laundering.
