Disgraced Nigeria’s spy chief, Lawal Daura has been released from custody, but his passport has been seized, sources tell CHECKPOINTCHARLEY.
Mr. Daura, recently sacked as the director-general of the Department of State Services, DSS, was released Wednesday evening from a guest house run by the DSS in Gwarimpa, Abuja.
The once arrogant and tyrannical boss of the DSS had been placed on house arrest since Acting-President Yemi Osinbajo ordered his summary dismissal on Tuesday after he unlawfully and recklessly sent DSS operatives to lockdown the National Assembly – in a move since by many as to aid a minority APC senators, loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari, to impeach the president of the senate, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
The presidency had denied authorizing the siege on the National Assembly, whiich had internally and externally embarrassed the government.
Security sources say that Daura was first held and interrogated at the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squard facility in Guzape, Abuja, before he was moved to one of the guests houses owned by DSS in Abuja.
Mr. Daura’s whereabout remains unknown after his release.
As at the time of filing this report, his cellphones were switched off.
In any case, a source told CHECKPOINTCHARLEY that he was released on adminstrative bail.
“He will be back if there is need for him,” the source said Mr. Daura was told.
