After Two Years In Unlawful Detention, Nigerian Journalist Jones Abiri Regains Freedom

Nigerian journalist, Jones Abiri, who had been unlawfully detained for over two years by the Department of State Services, DSS, has been released.

Mr. Abiri regained his freedom Wednesday evening after he met his bail conditions, his lawyer announced.

The publisher and editor-in-chief of Weekly magazine, Source was detained by the DSS for two years without trial over allegations of armed militancy in the Niger Delta.

He was finally charged to court recently following public outcry and international pressure and was granted bail by an Abuja court.

Mr Abiri’s trial however continues at the Abuja magistrate court in Zone 2, Wuse on Thursda, his lawyer said.
