The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke has maintained his lead in the Osun State Governorship Election held on Saturday, even after the collation of results from 29 INEC local government secretariats and its headquarters in Osogbo, dusting his closest APC rival, Gboyeja Oyetoga with just over 12,000 votes.
The collated results, most of which have been verified by INEC in Osogbo show that the PDP has so far scored about 236,784 votes, while the APC got about 224,488 votes.
However, while PDP is ahead in total votes cast so far in the 29 local governments, the APC leads in terms of number of local governments won – winning in 15 local governments, while the PDP won in 11 local governments.
The ADP grabbed one local government (Iwo) while the SDP has two local governments (Ife East and Ife Central) in its column.
As things stand now, CHECKPOINTCHARLEY can authoritatively report that the results in Osogbo, the biggest local government area of Osun State, will determine who wins the contest, which has now become a two horse race between PDP and APC.
As at the time of filing this report, some results that filtered in from Osogbo gave the ruling party, All Progressives Congress an early lead. However, it is doubtful if it would garner enough votes to erase PDP’s 12,000 votes advantage.
