
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, has paid tribute to former president Olusegun Obasanjo in his a victory speech as he accepted to be the party’s flag bearer in the 2019 presidential election.
The former vice president also thanked, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and other PDP leaders, dubbing the convention as “a landmark event.”
He also hailed his fellow contestants “for displaying a sense of unity, a sense of purpose and a sense of commitment, saying he is ever ready to work with each and every one of them for the realisation of the victory of our party in the forthcoming elections – admitting that he cannot do it alone.
According to him, he and PDP leaders “cannot afford to fail Nigerians at this very moment.”
In his tribute to Obasanjo, Mr. Atiku said he would not have succeeded as a presidential candidate if his former boss had not made me his vice president.
He said, “Under his tutelage, I learnt quite a lot.
“I wish to pay my personal tribute to him.”
Atiku had polled 1,532 votes to defeat 11 other contestants in the PDP primary which ended on Sunday afternoon in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
