Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has resigned his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr. Sani made this known in a letter dated October 19 and addressed to the chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole.
The senator gave no reason for dumping the party. However, he had a rocky relationship with fellow party man Governor, Mallam Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State since 2015.
His defection comes few days after the APC submitted the name of El-Rufai’s political adviser, Uba Sani, as the candidate for his senatorial district.
This happened despite the APC insisting for long that Sani was its only candidate cleared to contest the Kaduna Central senatorial seat.
The senator had been expected to leave the APC during the mass defection at the National Assembly but changed his mind following persuations and assurances from national leaders of the party, including Mr. Oshiomhole.
He had also met with President Muhammadu Buhari during that time.
As at the time of filing this report, Mr. Sani’s political future remained uncertain. Neither was it yet clear which party he would be joining.
