The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday said that 79 political parties have submitted names of their presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections.
The chairman of the commission, Mahmood Yakubu, revealed this during a press briefing with journalists at the headquarters of the commission in Abuja.
Mr. Yakubu also said that,apart from the 79 presidential candidates, 89 parties fielded 1,803 candidates for the 109 senatorial seats and 4,548 for the 350 federal constituencies.
He promised to make available a breakdown of the candidates and their parties soon.
Notable among the presidential candidates are, President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Obadiah Mailafia of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and former Governor Donald Duke of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
