The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, on Monday simply refused to answer a simple question as to whether the embattled Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, is under EFCC investigation.
Mr. Magu, who is yet to be confirmed by the Nigerian Senate, had invited reporters for a press conference in commemoration of his third year in office.
However when the EFCC chairman was asked to confirm if the EFCC was investigating Ganduje, who was allegedly caught on camera collecting millions of dollars as kickbacks from contractors, he just said, “next question please.”
The Kano State House of Assembly had started investigating the matter but was stopped by a court injunction from going ahead.
Recall that the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), had expressed the view that the Kano house of Assembly lacks the competence to probe the governor.
According to him, only an anti-graft agency like the EFCC could do so.
Critics of the President Muhammadu buhari government say that a selective war against corruption is being prosecuted.
