Bittersweet: Appeal Court Reduces Ex-Gov Nyame Jail Term, Adds N525m Fine

It was a case of bittersweet for convicted former governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame as the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal on Friday commuted the 14-year imprisonment imposed by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja to 12 years.

Notwithstanding the reduction of the time Nyame will spend in jail, the Justice Abdul Aboki-led three-man panel of the Court of Appeal however added a fine of total sum of N525m on top of the punitive sanction meted out to the former governor.

The fine had been omitted by the lower court during sentencing.

The appellate court had earlier in the day also reduced the sentence of 14-year imprisonment slammed on a former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye to 10 years.
