
President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday kicked off his campaign for reelection, urging politicians to go about their 2019 electioneering peacefully and not set the country ablaze because of politics.
Mr. Buhari made the appeal at the launch of a “campaign manual/next level document” to start his reelection campaign at the State House Conference Centre.
He said, “I am not unmindful of the fact that the National Assembly and the presidential campaign starts today, I will implore candidates to go about the campaigns peacefully and decently.
“We have no other country than Nigeria , let us not set it ablaze because of politics.”
Campaigns for the presidential and national assembly elections started on Sunday across Nigeria, in accordance with INEC time-table.
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, will on Monday start his campaign for the 2019 elections.
According to a statement on Saturday by the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, the former Vice President will start the campaign with an address to Nigerians via the social media platform, Facebook, at noon.
Atiku is scheduled to inaugurate his policy document during the address.
