The Federal High Court Osogbo on Tuesday declined the bail application of ex-lecturer with Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Richard Iyiola Akindele, who is facing trial for demanding sex for good grades from one of his students, Monica Osagie.
Mr. Akindele’s lawyer, Francis Omotoso, had filed an application for his bail, but the application was challenged by Kehinde Ayantoye, a legal officer with the Independent Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), who filed a counter affidavit deposed to by one Afolabi Oluwatoyin.
In her ruling, Justice Maureen Onyetenu turned down the application for bail, saying the allegations contained in the counter affidavit are weighty.
She ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody till 17th December and directed the prosecution to produce evidence to back its claim.
