Man Kills His Four Children In Rivers, Commits Suicide

One Patrick Archibong, a resident of Alesa in the Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, has committed suicide after strangling his four children to death.

Thirty-five-year-old Archibong reportedly locked up his four children, aged eight, five, three and one, in a room and strangled them, set thhe house he had lived as a atenant on fire, before hanging himself.

It is understood that his wife escaped during her husband’s moment of madness. He had attacked her with a matchete, casuing the woman to flee for her life.

Sources said that Archibong committed the atrocity around 1am on Tuesday. He left no suicide note; no one knows why he chose to kill his own children – all of them.

Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident, saying that the landlord reported the matter to the police in Aleda, Eleme.

He said, “In the early hours of today (Tuesday), Mr Gomba, who is the landlord of Mr Patrick Archibong, reported the incident to the police. The corpses of the five persons have been sent to the mortuary.

“An autopsy will soon be conducted on all the corpses. The reason for the action of the man (Archibong) has not been ascertained.”
