The governor of cash-strapped Ebonyi State, David Umahi is currently under fire on Social Media for sharing Christmas bags of rice, with his picture and that of his wife, as well as President Muhammadu Buhari and first lady, to Ebonyi masses, in what could be interpreted as vote buying move for the imcumbent president.
Unclear however is whether Mr. Umahi is spending state resources or his private money in campaigning for the All Progressives Congress(APC) presidential candidate.
Though a Peoples Democratic (PDP) governor, Mr. Umahi and Buhari enjoy a good relationship.
The Ebonyi state governor has not responded to our text, respecting the question as to whether he is employing state funds or his private money in this obvious political campaign. Neither has he denied that the photo, trending on Social Media, is fake.
