The Benue State Livestock Guards have impounded 105 cows and four sheep caught grazing openly near the Akawe Torkula College of Advanced and Professional Studies, Makurdi, arresting one herder, Kunje Saija.

The Commander, Benue State Livestock Guards, Mr. Linus Zaki disclosed this on wednesday.

Accoring to him, the impounded cows would be quarantined for seven days, in accordance with the Benue State Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law.

He said the cows would be auctioned if the owners failed to pay the appropriate fines stipulated by the law.

Mr. Zaki warned herdsmen of the consequences of flouting the law, urging them to adopt ranching of all forms of livestock in the state.
