The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has removed the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi and three Deputy Commissioners of Police in the State Command, a police source has told the Punch on Wednesday, describing the reschuffle as “a tsunami.”

The DCPs removed were in charge of the Operations and State Criminal and Investigation Departments of the Command.

Mr. Idris also removed 11 out of the 14 Assistant Commissioners of Police in the Command.

The ACPs reportedly removed included Area commanders and others heading strategic departments in the Command headquarters.

The source, who appears to be shocked, said that the Command had never witnessed such massive transfers.

The source, who pleaded not to be mentioned, told the newspaper, “The IGP has removed the Commissioner of Police, all the three Deputy Commissioners of Police and 11 out of the 14 Assistant Commissioners of Police.

“The transfers are with immediate actions. The Command is expecting a new CP any moment from now.”

It is understood that Mr. Galadanchi has been transfered by the IGP to Bauchi State Command.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of Kogi State Command, Ali Janga, has been reportedly ordered to resume in Imo State.

Recall that Mr. Janga was in the State in November on election duty during the All Progressives Congress primaries.

Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, has also confirmed that the command is expecting the arrival of a new Commissioner of Police.

The massive transfers in the Imo State police command cannot be unconnected with the 2019 general elections.

Mr. Idris had been accused by critics as bein partisan and loyal to the ruling party, APC – instead of the consitution he swore to upheld.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to control the activities of overzealous aides, including the country’s security chiefs, especially the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, whose activities lately gives him away as a partisan player in negation of his oath of office.

Mr. Abubakar had responded to the president’s New Year message, in which he said the 2019 election should not be a do-or-die affair.
