The presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, Dr. Obiageli (Oby) Ezekwesili, has also rejected the appointment of Amina Zakari as head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre for the elections.
INEC had on Thursday appointed the commission’s former Director of Operations, as the person, who will announce the result of the presidential election, in which her uncle, Muhammadu Buhari is a candidate.
Reacting, Ezekwesili condemned Zakari’s appointment on her Twitter Page, saying there would be grave consequences.
She said, “It is now quite obvious that the @inecnigeria Chairman is making decisions that cannot at all be INDEPENDENT. How in the world can @inecnigeria appoint Amina Zakari – niece of @MBuhari – as its Head of Collation Center? Are the INEC Chairman &President ready for the grave consequence?”.
Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party; PDP; had also on Thursday said Zakari’s appointment is unacceptable.
In a statement issued by PDP spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, said Mrs Zakari’s appointment as the person to announce the 2019 presidential election results is “another heinous machination by the Buhari Presidency and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to subvert the will of the people and rig the February 16, Presidential election.”
The former ruling party stated that it underlines Mr. Buhari’s determination to rig himself back into power.
