The embattled Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye has finally left his besieged Maitama, Abuja residence after eight days of being holed up in there following his face-off with the Nigeria Police.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY has been informed that Mr. Melaye went to see the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris at Force Headquarters, Abuja after his fellow senators, who visited him on Friday, interceded in the matter.
But it later turned out that the senators were not able to see the police chief, who was said to be out of office.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY understood that Mr. Melaye later went to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad office, Guzape, Abuja, where he may be interrogated.
Recall that operatives of the Nigeria Police have been laying siege on Melaye’s Abuja home since eight days, saying they will not leave until he surrenders himself to the Police.
The Police allege that the Senator is wanted for attempted murder over the alleged shooting of one Sgt. Aliyu.
The policeman, is said to be lying critically ill at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.
It is alleged that he was injured last July in Kogi State by suspected thugs loyal to the senator.
