The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi has told journalists on Tuesday that there will be no new commissioner of police for State, saying he received a directive from Abuja to suspend handing over to incoming CP, Kayode Egbetokun, as had earlier been directed by former IGP, Ibrahim Idris.
.
Mr. Imohimi, who had invited the Press to Lagos State Police Command’s headquarters to witness the handing- and taking over ceremony between him and Egbetokun, said they were about concluding the process when he got the signal from Abuja.
Mr. Idris had redeployed Imohimi to Abuja, to resume as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Explosive Ordinance Unit at the Force Headquarters, and had named Mr. Egbetokun to replace him in acting capacity.
“You all know that our first job is about order and direction; we were about concluding the handing and taking over procedure when we were instructed by our bosses from Abuja to suspend action for now.
“So, there will be no change of guard for now. Of course, we would keep the Press briefed about any development, ” Imohimi said.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari today at the Presidential Villa unveiled the successor to Mr. Idris as Inspector General of Police.
He is AIG Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.
The development in the Lagos State Police Command may not be unconnected with the emergence of a new IGP.
CP Imohimi is probably the best CP in Nigeria at the moment.
