Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday intensified his attack on President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he is sick in the spirit, body and soul.

Mr. Obasanjo said this in an interview with BBC Yoruba.

This comes barely 24 hours after the former president headbutted Mr. Buhari in a 16-page letter he released to the press in Abeokuta on Sunday, accusing him of taking the country back to the Sani Abacha era.

Obasanjo told the BBC that Buhari needs to rest and allow another person to take charge of the country.

“Buhari is sick in the spirit, body and soul. Let’s beg him to go and rest. He has tried his best. Let give chance to another person.

“When people ask me that what if the next person is not suitable, I tell them that is the beauty of democracy,” he said.

On Sunday, Mr. Obasanjo had alleged in his letter that the president was misusing the EFCC, Police and Code of Conduct Tribunal to deal with those he sees as enemies for criticising him or as those who may not do his bidding in manipulating election results.

“Criticism, choice and being different are inherent trade mark of democracy. If democracy is derailed or aborted, anarchy and authoritarianism will automatically follow,” Obasanjo said.
