The Borno State Commissioner, Damian Chukwu has confirmed the killing of eleven people Saturday morning in a Maiduguri mosque by suicide bombers suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists.
15 others were said to have been injured.
In a text message to journalists, Mr. Chukwu stated that on-the-spot assessment of the scene of the attack showed the casualty figures.
The CP said at about 5:40am, “gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists and suicide bombers infiltrated Gwozari/Kushari in Polo General area, Maiduguri.”
They shot sporadically and detonated IEDs strapped to their bodies.
According to him, the attack killed 11 persons, including three suicide bombers.
It is still unclear if Boko Haram wanted to use the attack to discourage people from going out to vote as the presidential and National Asswmbly elections were scheduled for Saturday but postponed at the last minute by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
This comes four days after Boko Haram terrorists attacked the convoy of Borno governor, Kashim Shettima, killing three and a soldier.
