President Muhammadu Buhari has threatened potential ballot box snatchers with death, warning them not to try it on February 23.
Mr Buhari issued the threat at an emergency caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Monday, saying anyone who who attempts to take ballot boxes, would be doing so at the “expense of his life”.
Mr Buhari again admonished the Independent National Electoral Commission for postponing the general elections from February 16 to 23, agreeing with the submission of party chairman Adams Oshiomhole that the electoral chief had compromised by colluding with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
He said there will be consequences.
Mr. Oshiomhole at the same meeting requested that INEC reshuffle some of its senior officials.
He accused some INEC State Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of working with the PDP, fingering in particular the REC in Akwa Ibom, Mike Igini, a revered activist.
Recall that Mr. Igini had on Saturday raised alarm over how thugs of a political party burnt INEC vehicles in the state. He however failed to mention the party.
He had said, “Some of our vehicles that were distributing materials were burnt yesterday and who are those instigating this? Politicians.
“This is rather unfortunate. Politicians who are the greatest beneficiaries of this democracy have become the greatest threats.”
