The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Abba Yusuf is leading in the Kano State gubernatorial election after the Independepent Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the official results of 43 Local Government Areas.
Only the result of Nasarawa LGA, the biggest and a PDP stronghold, is yet to be announced as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, police operatives at the Kano collation have arrested the state’s deputy governor, Nasir Gawuna, and the commissioner in charge of local government and chieftaincy affairs, Sule Garo after both men allegedly attempted to stop the announcement of the Nasarawa results.
Both men were arrested around 2am Monday after they arrived the venue of the state collation centre and began to disrupt the process.
In any case, the police are expected to later release dep. governor Gawuna without charges as he enjoys constitutional immunity from prosecution.
The results from 43 of Kano’s 44 local governments, show that Mr. Yusuf was leading incumbent Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP candidate polled 960,004 votes, while Ganduje got 953,522.
Recall that governor Ganduje was last year caught on videos that went viral on internet allegedly taking bribes in dollars from government contractors.
