
The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday approved N30,000 as the new national minimum wage after it approved the report of the ad-hoc committee on National Minimum Wage Bill.
The acting Chairman of the Senate ad-hoc committee on National Minimum Wage Bill, Senator Francis Alimikhena, who delivered the report ,said a fine of N75,000 will be imposed on firms that refuses to comply with the new wage.
The panel further recommended the urgent review of the revenue-sharing formula to enable the states to pay the new minimum wage.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, after accepting all the recommendatuions of the committe, urged the Federal Government to pay the new minimum wage without delay instead of waiting for the workers to go on strike to demand the implementation.
