CHECKPOINTCHARLEY can now authoritatively report that outgoing governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha will watch the inauguration of the 9th Senate on television and will not be sworn in as senator after an Owerri High Courtordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to issue him the certificate of return for Imo West senatorial election.

Mr. Okorocha claims he won that senate race. But INEC says he was declared winner by the returning officer “under duress.”

The judge gave the order folwing a suit with NO HOW/596/2019, filed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial candidate for Imo West, Hon Jones Onyeriri against the INEC.

The presiding Judge, Justice E.F. Njemanze, ordered that the status quo be maintained until the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.

The matter was adjourned to June 5, 2019 for hearing.

The decision finally nails Okorocha’s legal efforts to get INEC to issue him a certificate of return in time for the inauguration of the 9th Senate on May 29, (Wednesday).
