
Mohammed Garba of the Appeal Court Lagos has taken over as the new chairperson of the presidential election petition tribunal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
Garba, a Court of Appeal judge, replaces the court’s president, Zainab Bulkachuwa, who had recused herself after the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said she was likely to be biased in a petition challenging the election victory of President Muhammadu buhari..
The PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had asked Mrs Bulkachuwa to step down as the tribinal head, saying her husband is an APC senator.
She evetually stepped down, citing “personal ground”.
Mr Garba, who hails from Zamfara State, was until his appointment to the Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the Zamfara State High Court.
