President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday named the Abuja national stadium after MKO Abiola while delivering his speech at Eagle Square, Abuja, during the Democracy Day celebrations.
The late Abiola is presumed to have won of the June 12, 1993 election, which was annulled by the military government of Ibrahim Babaginda.
“Today, I propose the renaming of the Abuja National Stadium. Henceforth it will be called the Moshood Abiola National Stadium,” the president said.
Mr. Buhari had last year declared June 12 as Democracy Day in honour of Abiola, giving him a posthumous national honour.
