
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has announced principal officers of Nigeria’s upper house of legislature, sent to him by the leaderships of the ruling All Progressives Party and main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Mr. Lawan, at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, named Senator Abdullahi Yahaya as Senate Leader and Ajayi Boroffice as his deputy, both of the APC..
The Senate President also announced Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of the PDP as the Minority Leader and Phillip Aduda as Minority Whip.
Orji Uzor Kalu got the chief whip posiition, with senator Shabi Yau as deputy,
While Senator Emmanuel Bwacha was named as the Deputy Leader.
The lawmakers would form the Body of Principal Officers also known as Selection Committee and would then assign senators to committees based on interest earlier shown by them.
Yahaya and Abaribe, in their acceptance speeches, promised to discharge their duties effectively.
