CHECKPOINTCHARLEY can report that Senator Elisha Abbo, representing Adamawa North Senatorial District is in the custody of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command and is currently being interrogated by detectives for allegedly assaulting a nursing mother at a sex shop.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senator, who had earlier arrived the Command, is currently being interrogated by detectives, FCT Police Commissioner, Bala Ciroma, has confirmed.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY was informed that the embattled senator had earlier met with the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, at the Force headquarters before heading to the command for interrogation.
The lawmaker was seen in a video released online this week by Premium Times brutishly assaulting a nursing mother. It sparked national outrage, with rights groups and prominent Nigerians calling for his arrest and prosecution.
The IGP had directed the CP to carry out an investigation into the incident.
The IGp also asked Ciroma to undertake a forensic investigation of the footage which showed Abbo repeatedly hitting his victim in an Abuja sex shop.
Mr. Abbo is still being interrogated as at the time of filing this report. It is still unclear if he would be detained. But that remains a possibility.
