Nigerians have defied the government of President Muhammadu Buhari by going ahead with the #RevolutionNow protest against what they call bad governance despite government intimidation and ban.
One of the arrowhead of the protest and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr. Omoyele Sowore was on Saturday arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, in a bid to stop the planned protest.
Both the police and DSS had talked tough over the weekend, warning Nigerians to stay clear of the planned protest.
But notwithstanding heavy presence of security agents under the aegis of OP MESA, a joint Internal Security Operational platform made up of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, who had surrounded the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, in the early hours of Monday, protesters took to the street.
The unarmed protesters, who chanted revolutionary songs, were teargassed by security agents, who also fired shots.
There has been no casualty as at the time of filing this report.
