El-Zakzaky, Wife Return To Nigeria, Whisked Away By DSS Operatives

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat on Friday returned to Nigeria after an interrupted medical trip to India but were immediately whisked away by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The DSS operatives prevented journalists and some of his supporters from having access to them after they arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 11:40am.

Immediately the Ethiopian Airlines flight conveying El-Zakzaky and his wife  touched down, DSS operatives drove an ambulance to the tarmac and picked them up.

They were reportedly taken through the presidential wing of the airport.

The IMN leader, his wife, few family members and security operatives had left the country on Monday but 24 hours after he landed in India, the cleric raised the alarm that he was being caged like a criminal – expressing the desire to return home, saying said he was not given access to his preferred doctors.

He said that he did not trust those they asked to examine him.

However the federal government dismissed his claim, claiming that he did not complying with the terms of the Kaduna high court which granted him medical leave.

Suhaila, a daughter of El-Zakzaky, had told BBC that her father was suffering from lead poisoning which could result to his death.

El-Zakzaky and his wife have been in detention since their arrest in 2015 following a clash between their supporters and some soldiers.
