Police Take Over Shoprite In Abuja As Protesters Vandalize MTN Karu Office

Armed policemen have taken over the Jabi Lake Mall Abuja in a bid to forestall the vandalizing of Shoprite by protesters seeking retaliation of the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in in South Africa.

Movement has been restricted within and outside the area as shoppers and shop owners in the mall were asked to pass through the exit gate.

However, the anticipated protest had yet to spark off as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the MTN office located in Karu, a suburb of Abuja, has been vandalised by some Nigerians protesters.

There was also confusion at Shoprite, Lugbe, along airport road, Abuja, as police fired teargas canisters to stop a mob from setting the shopping mall on fire.

On Tuesday, one protester was shot dead by the police after violence broke out at the Shoprite outlet in Lekki, Lagos.

The MTN office in Bodija, Ibadan was also set on fire as angry Nigerians targeted South African businesses in retaliation.
