The House of Representatives on Thursday asked the Central Bank of Nigeria to suspend its planned controversial Cashless policy, which was announced this week by the apex bank.

This followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Benjamin Kalu.

The House resolved to mandate the committee on banking to investigate the policy and report to the House in 4 weeks.

The newly announced cashless policy had eleicited criticism from majority of Nigerians on Social Media.

A media personality, Raymond Nwachukwu was so miffed with the new policy that he wrote on his Facebook Page:

“Am yet to see a govt that’s less sensitive and People friendly. You increase VAT,you introduce spurious bank charges to people that are already downcast by your (mal)administration and there are no single social benefits to cushion the effects of these policies.

“In a Country where Education, Water,Health care,Housing even electricity are provided for by the citizens themselves and all the government do is to introduce tax policies that pauperised them more is to say the least unfortunate.

“The National assembly should without delay keep Emefiele in check before the CBN brings out the “Venezuela” in us.”
