Aisha Buhari, wife of the President Muhammadu Buhari, who enjoys high approval rating by Nigerians, returned to the country in the early hours of Sunday amid rumours of her husband taking a second wife.
A statement by her spokesman, Suleiman Haruna said Mrs Buhari arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at 4.30am after a long absence from the country.
She was quoted as saying that she was happy to be back after what she called a “deserved rest.”
The First Lady was reportedly received at the airport by wives of serving and former state governors as well as some other friends and family members.
“This morning, First Lady of Nigeria, Dr Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari returned to the country after a long holiday in the UK.
“She arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 4.30 am via a British Airways flight, the statement read.
Speaking to reporters on arrival, Mrs Buhari said she was happy to be home after a well-deserved rest.
She thanked her husband, family and well-wishers for their support and encouragement.
The reason for her long absence is still a subject of public speculation. Though Mrs Buhari hinted on her arrival that it was a medical vacation.
