A former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, says he is above pettiness to have feud with President Muhammadu Buhari who ordered his detention for four years despite court orders for his release.

Mr Dasuki said on Wednesday this during a radio interview with the Voice of America, Hausa Service.

When asked if there was a feud between him and Buhari, the former NSA responded, “I have no feud with anybody. I am more than that. I can’t engage in a feud with anyone.”

He however thanked Nigerians who prayed for his release while behind bars.

“There are no words enough to show appreciation to all the prayers offered (by Nigerians). All we can do is to thank them and pray to God to reward them abundantly,” Dasuki said.

Mr Dasuki was arrested in December 2015 for alleged corruption while in office and possession of arms. He had denied any wrongdoing.

He was released on the directive of Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami on Tuesday following pressure from within the country and the international community.

The United States had recently blacklisted Nigeria as “a country of particular concern” due to alleged human rights abuses.

After the recent invasion of a court in session by agents of the Department of State Services (DSS) to rearrest a political activist, Omoleye Sowore 24 hours after his release, the United States had threatened to reassess its relations with Nigeria.

Sowore was also released on Tuesday.

Before Tuesday, Mr. Malami, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), had consistently defended Dasuki’s continued incarceration.

Mr Dasuki, a retired Nigerian Army colonel, was Nigeria’s national security adviser until May 2015.

He was arrested in December 2015 by the Buhari government.
