A former deputy US attorney-general, Bruce Fein has described the Nigerian Supreme Court Imo judgement of January 14 as “flawed, fraudulent and a crime against humanity.”
In a video uploaded on Youtube on Wednesday, Fein said the judgement disenfranchised Imo people and therefore contrary to Art. 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
He was speaking at a symposium held on February 5, at the United Sates National Press Club, Washington, with the theme, “The Collapse of Democracy, The Nigerian judiciar Presents a clear and present danger to Nigeria and the West African Sub-Region.”
The renowned constitutional and international law expert threatened that if the Supreme Court does not reverse the judgement, the seven justices face visa ban and freezing of their assets in the United States.
Mr. Fein added that the same goes for all the justices of the apex court and not only the seven justices who participated in the decision.
According to him, the supreme court could not have “exposed themselves to such ridicule” in delivering such judgement, which another speaker, Bruce Delvalle described as “a stuff of comedy,” if there was not a higher force that pressurized them into compromising their independence.
He therefore said leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who he fingered as that higher force, would also face visa ban and freezing of their assets in the United States.
Fein further pointed out that the relevant committees in the US senate and House of Representatives will soon investigate the fraudulent judgement and take the right decision, which he said may include placing financial aids to Nigeria on freeze.
He said only countries that respect the rule of law and human rights are entitled to enjoy US aids.
