Activist and Journalist Agba Jalingo has been released from the Calabar prison after spending about seven months in custody.
He was released on Monday after meeting his bail conditions, another activist, Inibehe Effiong, confirmed to the press.
Jalingo, who is the publisher of Cross River Watch, was first arrested by the police in August 2019 on the orders of governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State.
Jalingo is known critic of his government.
Due to his long detention, Amnesty International had declared the activist , “a prisoner of conscience”.
The court, which had earlier rejected his bail applications, granted him bail last week following growing outcry over Jalingo’s continued incarceration.
Last week, there were a series of protests in Cross River calling for his release.
