Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), says Nigeria would be in serious trouble should the spread of the coronavirus escalate in the country.
Mustapha said this while speaking when the Coronavirus task force met with the leadership of the national assembly in Abuja, saying he never knew Nigeria’s healthcare system was in a very bad state until the coronavirus pandemic.
He said his role as the chairman of the presidential task force on COVID-19 opened his eye to the current state of Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure.
Mustapha said, “I can tell you for sure, I never knew that our entire healthcare infrastructure was in the state in which it is util I was appointed to do this work.
“My prayer is that Nigeria’s situation does not escalate to that extent because the country lacked what is required to handle the situation.”
With the health sector in shambles over the years, Nigeria’s ruling class continued to go abroad for medical care, not caring what the fate of the ordinary was. But with international borders closed, due to COVID-19, the Nigerian elite is now stuck at home with the mess they created in that sector due to mindless corruption, selfishness and vision-less leadership.
It however, remains to be seen if this coronavirus pandemic would lead to a change of attitude.
