Four soldiers have been reportedly killed in an ambush on Tuesday by bandits in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

A source told the Punch that troops of Operation Hadarin were taken unawares by the bandits in the bush between Birane and Garin-Kada villages of the Zurmi Local Government Area.

The soldiers were reportedly conveying food to their colleagues on guard in the bush.

It was gathered that as soon as the soldiers arrived near the area where the bandits were hiding, they opened fire and killed four soldiers.

“The Force Commander of the OPHD who is also the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division, Sokoto, Brig. Gen. Aminu Bande, has visited the scene.

“The soldiers regrouped, attacked and killed the bandits in large numbers, forcing them to flee leaving some of their assault weapons,” the source told the newspaper.
