COVID-19 patients have held health workers hostage at the Kwanar Dawaki Isolation Centre in Kano state, locking them up in a room for hours.

Former chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Kano branch, Aminu Mohammed, disclosed this when he featured on a radio programme on Friday.

He said the aggrieved patients held the health workers, two medical doctors and one nurse, hostage as they went round the wards for routine checks.

Mohammed said health workers, who are battling with inadequate personal protective equipment (PPEs), still face the challenge of managing hostile patients.

When contacted,  the head of Kano COVID-19 technical response team, Tijjani Husaini, said he was not yet aware of the incident.

With 482 confirmed cases, Kano has the second highest number of infections in the country.
