House Of Reps Rejects Castration As Punishment For Rapists

reps1

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has voted against making castration a punishment for rapists.

The lower chamber of legislature rejected this during plenary on Thursday.

A member, Mr James Faleke, had recommended that persons found guilty of rape should be castrated, amid rising cases of sexual violence in the country.

But the motion was rejected even before it was subjected to a voice vote, the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, asked what would happen to an older female who rapes a younger male. This generated lots of laughter and noise in the house.
