Nothing seems now to be on the way of governor Godwin Obaseki grabbing the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship ticket after his unbending rival, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, finally caved in and withdrew his suit at the Federal High Court Port Harcourt seeking to stop Obaseki from contesting the PDP primary scheduled for Thursday (today).
The case was subsequently struck out on Wednesday.
Recall that Mr. Ogbeide-Ihama had vowed not to step down for Obaseki.
The embattled governor had recently defected to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress. And Ogbeide-Ihama was averse to allowing such a new entrant to participate in the party primary barely days after he joined the party.
The court struck out the case after Ogbeide-Ihama’s lawyer, D. C. Denwigwe (SAN), orally withdrew the suit before Justice E. O. Obile.
The counsel for Ogbeide-Ihama had earlier sought the leave of the court to settle with the defendants in the matter, which was granted.
Following an out of court settlement among the parties in the matter, the plaintiff told the court that all parties had agreed that the matter be withdrawn from the court.

Ogebide-Ihama told party members of Wednesday to support the winner of the PDP primary if the exercise followed due process.
With Obaseki enjoying a preponderance of support by PDP bigwigs, including party chairman Uche Secondus and former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, he is expected to easily coast to victory today.
